Dive into Float Therapy: Answering Your FAQs

Float therapy

In recent years, float therapy has gained popularity as a holistic approach to relaxation and well-being. Offering a unique experience of weightlessness and sensory deprivation, float therapy, also known as sensory deprivation tanks or isolation tanks, involves floating in a tank filled with highly buoyant saltwater. If you're curious about this intriguing practice, you probably have a few questions. Let's dive into some frequently asked questions about float therapy.

1. What exactly is float therapy?

Float therapy involves immersing oneself in a tank filled with water saturated with Epsom salt. Our tank has about 1,500 pounds of salt in it. The high salt concentration allows the body to float effortlessly, creating a sensation of weightlessness. The tanks are typically soundproof and lightproof, providing an environment of sensory deprivation. This experience aims to promote relaxation, reduce stress, alleviate pain, and enhance mental clarity. It’s worth noting, however, that you have complete control over your environment by using the controls inside of the tank.

2. What are the benefits of float therapy?

Float therapy offers a myriad of potential benefits, both physical and mental. Some of the commonly reported benefits include stress reduction, muscle relaxation, pain relief, improved sleep quality, heightened creativity, enhanced focus, and a deep sense of relaxation. Many people also use float therapy as a tool for meditation and self-reflection.

3. Is float therapy safe?

Yes, float therapy is generally considered safe for most individuals. The tanks are designed to ensure buoyancy and are filled with a shallow amount of water, ours being 11inches of water. The high salt concentration prevents sinking, making it virtually impossible to drown. Additionally, float centers adhere to strict hygiene standards, including regular cleaning and maintenance of the tanks.

4. Who can benefit from float therapy?

Float therapy can benefit a wide range of individuals, including those seeking relaxation, stress relief, pain management, enhanced creativity, or improved mental clarity. It's particularly popular among athletes for post-workout recovery and people dealing with chronic pain conditions. However, pregnant women, individuals with open wounds or infectious diseases, and those with certain medical conditions should consult their healthcare provider before trying float therapy.

5. What should I expect during a float therapy session?

Each float therapy session typically lasts about 60 minutes. You may get out at any time during your session. Upon arrival at Vibrant Health, you'll be shown to our private float suite. Before entering the tank, you'll shower to remove any oils or contaminants from your skin. Once inside the tank, you'll float effortlessly in the saltwater, enjoying the sensation of weightlessness and sensory deprivation. You can choose to float in complete darkness or with soft music playing in the background, depending on your preference.

6. How should I prepare for a float therapy session?

To make the most of your float therapy experience, it's essential to prepare beforehand. Avoid caffeine and heavy meals in the hours leading up to your session, as they can interfere with relaxation. It's also advisable to avoid shaving or waxing on the day of your session, as the saltwater may cause discomfort on freshly shaved skin. Additionally, bring any personal items you may need other than the ones we provide. We provide most essentials such as shampoo, conditioner, body wash, towels, wash cloths, makeup remover wipes, earplugs, and OSEA body/facial care products.

7. How often should I float?

The frequency of float therapy sessions varies depending on individual preferences and goals. Some people find weekly sessions beneficial for maintaining overall well-being, while others prefer less frequent sessions such as monthly for stress relief or pain management. Experiment with different frequencies to determine what works best for you and listen to your body's needs.

Float therapy offers a unique opportunity to escape the stresses of everyday life and indulge in deep relaxation and introspection. Whether you're seeking relief from physical discomfort, mental stress, or simply looking to enhance your overall well-being, float therapy may be worth exploring. Remember to consult with a healthcare professional if you have any concerns or medical conditions before trying float therapy.
